Right to Life Advertising
Recently in my town, there was uproar, over a Right-to-Life group wanting to buy billboard ads, with pictures of stages of actual abortions, on our city buses.
The right to lifers would argue that it is a constitutional right, freedom of speech. They feel however horrific, the images are to look at, they should be, that is actually, their point. They correlate horrifying you with pictures of abortions to keeping you from having an abortion, or from supporting others who do.
Why would you want to hinder the support of someone, facing the biggest decision of their lives? Support is supposed to be a positive thing. Whether you agree with the decision or not, it is not the time, to abandon someone in need. Support is always crucial.
I can see their point of view. I get it. I really do, but let me tell you why it actually works against them. For starters, I have never known of anyone who truly "wanted" an abortion, in the sense that it was some kind of proud achievement. There are no incentives. There is no "taking your friend to have an abortion day".It isn't some kind of goal, anyone strives towards.
I can tell you firsthand, that is rare if ever, the case. It's one of those decisions you pray, you never have to make.
Secondly, for those who have chose to abort, the images are cruel & unusual punishment, & don't exactly sway anyone to their side. To be honest with you, I have never looked. It was shown over & over again. I always looked away. Every single time I turned away, my gut would wrench, & my teeth would clench. It was horrible. It was like being kicked to the ground, and being kicked again, while you were down. And that's my feeling, looking away! I'm not sure what kind of person, can continue to be subjected to them.
And lastly, I don't understand how scaring people away from Choosing an abortion, is in every circumstance, the right or good decision. What gives the lifers the right to judge others decisions, about their own lives? In my opinion it's a bullying tactic. Most of us know, what being bullied feels like, & that it isn't the best way to do things. I feel there are many, more productive ways.
